awk now counts fields right on indented and blank lines
- What was broken
- Spaces at the start or end of a line counted as empty extra fields, and a blank line had one field instead of none. Field counts, first and last fields, and rebuilt lines came out wrong.
- What I changed
- Spaces at the edges no longer make empty fields, and an empty line has no fields, whatever the separator.
- Why it matters
- Scripts that read columns from indented or blank lines get the same answers as GNU awk.
